Cat VI vs HR
New to the program here. I am assuming that Cat VI is what others refer to as UT2 which depending on who you talk to, tops out around 70 to 75% of max HR.
I would like to think that I am a fairly fit 52yr old, but in order to stay under 75% of max HR for a 3 or 4×20”, I can’t go much faster than +23-24 seconds off my 500m split for 20mins. That is well over the +13-18secs for the well trained in your guide and even over the +18-22 secs club-level.
I do use a C2 dynamic which at low rates is hard to match a standard rowerg but that’s probably only 2-3 splits difference and doesn’t account for the difference. Should I stick to HR for Cat VI pace or should I push a bit harder and get within the suggested range?
Anyone else having a similar experience?
