Hi Everyone, my name is Addison. I’m 37, heavyweight, and I live in Seattle, WA. I started indoor rowing about 9 months ago and I’m looking to qualify for my age group to US nationals this year. I think I can get to 6:50 this year, which based on what I see online will get me there. Based on Sam’s calculator I should be able to go 6:40 based on my 60s avg watts, but I’ve never broken 7 minutes. Anyway, I’m looking forward to training with you all.

Thanks to Addison for opening this forum topic.

My name is Bruce, I’m 66, joined the Masters rowing club here in Northern Virginia and started rowing in a sweep 8+ in 2019, switched over to sculling in 2021. Most of my time has been in crewed boats — quad and double. I’ve become much more competitive as time’s gone on, racing our local 5ks and going to Philadelphia to row in the Head of the Schuylkill. I plan to get the majority of my on-water time this coming season in the single, maybe even do some 1x racing.

Last February, I raced my first-ever 2k indoor at the US Rowing Indoor Nationals in Alexandria Virginia. I was stepping up to a challenge offered by my 2x partner from the previous summer – he’d go along with me to an indoor rowing tank only if I went with him to the Erg Sprints – so I went ahead and did this race without any erg-specific training leading up to it. You know – just show up and row. I got a decent time for being “raw” — 8:24. This year, I’m actually training for the February 1st event, so I expect to do better. Then again, I will be 67, so it might not get much better! LOL!
