The electric and amazing Sanita Puspure, Irish international sculler, is now coaching masters. She told me that she’s at a change point in her rowing career and is keen to work with masters rowers via remote coaching. State of Masters Rowing 2023

Our sport is growing – fast. Last year we surveyed masters rowers about what it’s like for them. Your generosity sharing means we can draw a picture of masters rowing around the world.

Club Boards and Committees need to read this report because the changes in masters will affect what they offer to members, how they purchase the club equipment and provide coaching (please forward).

Rowing Federations need a strategy for masters rowing

  • Federations need to plan for significant changes in masters participation over the coming years.
  • We predict annual increases in over 40s starting learn to row classes of 2-5% each year.
  • Many of these new rowers will join clubs
  • Most masters continue in the sport for ten years or more.
  • The consequences of this are pressure on club size, equipment availability, coaching resource and club finances.
  • The opportunity this presents is increased revenues, growing participation and high profile for rowing as a proactive, friendly and age-agnostic sport.
