Hello again Reader
What does success look like for you? There are lots of ways to talk about success and the individuality of personal endeavor is part of the charm of masters rowing.
Your motivations for sticking with rowing may be to see the surprise and admiration of your club mates when you achieve a race result they didn’t think was possible. Or it may be that you get invited to train with a crew of more experienced masters. Or it may be the attractiveness of being described as “an athlete”.
Whatever motivates you, think about it this week and work out what you need to do in the next few months to the year’s end in order to advance towards your goal.

If you row at Glebe RC, Wendouree Ballarat or Aikman, please know that I am in discussion with the club leadership about working together. More detail about this is in the article below.
This week focus on your personal motivation to continue rowing.

Skill drills are hard to teach
I get frustrated by so many rowing videos which do not clearly demonstrate nor clearly explain how to do each drill. I decided to make better technique videos.
People tell me I am good at explaining and demonstrating the rowing stroke clearly. I’ve built a video playlist of drills and I want to give them to you so that you can use them.
Anyone who joins the Coach Mastermind group gets the full skills drills video suite. If you’re not a coach and want to just get the videos, join for one month, then cancel. First month costs $10 then it’s $25 per month.
I recommend you bookmark the list because I have not made these public, they are only for coach mastermind subscribers.
Here’s the full list of drills currently in the playlist.

Do any of you more experienced rowers know the proper ratios of recovery to drive at a given stroke rate? For instance, at say 18 spm it may be 3:1, but what is it at 20-22, 24-26, 28-30, etc.?
Does it ever go negative like .5:1 at Olympic rates? Thank you!

Is your rowing club ready for Faster Masters?
We’ve been reaching out to clubs who have masters rowing sections to find out if Faster Masters Rowing can form a sponsored partnership. We’re offering education, club strategy and expert Q&A to guide your club’s current challenges.
This past month we have approached all the masters clubs in Ireland, all the clubs in Australia and have got to 248 clubs in U.S. (down to Saratoga Rowing Association alphabetically).
From the Australian clubs Glebe RC, Wendouree Ballarat and Aikman have all had initial discussions with us. If you’d like to know which person we messaged in your club (so you can help us get the conversation started) hit reply and tell me your club.
Our vision is to make global masters rowing well-supported for athletes, clubs and coaches. Sharing best practice underpins our work. To achieve this we have a framework of strategies which combine to make an athlete pathway, opportunity to progress quickly for adult beginners, and resources for coaches and club administrators (so you don’t reinvent the wheel).
